We have a reputation as one of the leading roofing companies in Kent. This means we have much to offer in the way of new roofs to our customers across the county. Here’s what you can expect from our team of experienced roofers.
Do I Need
A New Roof?
Ultimately, that’s a question only you can answer. Some people choose to have a new roof installed to add kerb appeal and value to their property. Others choose to replace their roof because it has suffered extensive damage. Our team of roofers will be happy to provide their professional opinion, but the final decision will always be yours.
Our first task when fitting a new roof is to perform a full inspection of your existing roof. This let’s us know the general condition of the supporting timbers and any structural concerns. We may find that some materials can be re-used or repurposed, either here or on another project. This lets us offer the most cost-effective solution.
When we install a new roof the safety of our roofers and our customers are of paramount importance. We provide our own scaffolding for the job in hand, which we erect quickly, prior to starting the project. It not only grants safe access to the roof, but gives us somewhere to store materials throughout the build.
the Old Roof
We remove the existing roof materials starting from the ridge tiles at the top of the roof. We then remove the tiles or slates, exposing the timbers and tile laths beneath. Finally, we remove the laths, leaving only the central structure of your roof. If our inspection revealed damaged or rotten timbers, this is when we replace them.
The Roof Cavity
We cover the roof timbers with a layer of breathable felt. We begin layering from bottom of the roof (toward the eaves) moving upwards to its apex. This roofing felt acts as secondary protection. Should a tile be cracked or broken, any rainwater or moisture will run down the felt to the guttering below.
Unlike roofing felt, roofing tiles and slates are attached from the top of the roof downwards. They are installed in an overlapping fashion, like scales of armour (which is effectively what they are). Rainfall is directed down towards the eaves and guttering. Once the job is complete, we install ridge tiles to the pointed edges of your new roof.
With the new roof installed, there is still work to be done. We need to install a roofline to protect the eaves and underside of the roof from damp and water ingress. This requires cut-to-measure fascia boards, soffits, and a guttering system. We also apply lead flashing to the roof’s joins to divert water away from these vulnerable areas.
